Description: Bavaria Hutschenreuther 11" Cake Plate Hand Painted Pink Roses w/Gold 1932-1939 Bavaria Hutschenreuther 11" Cake Plate 1932-1939 Hand Painted Pink Roses w/Gold Exquisite Decorative SCALLOPED Rim CAKE PLATE, 10 7/8" Handle to Handle on RACINE Mold, from Selb, Bavaria, Germany Lorenz Hutschenreuther, Hand Painted PINK Cherokee ROSES w/GREEN LEAVES and blue ghost Leaves, w/ GOLD Trim & GOLD DAUBS, circa 1932-1939 DESCRIPTION: The beautiful scalloped rim decorative cake plate was painted by a talented artist using the pink, green and blue color palate on an ivory background. The pink, single petaled Cherokee Roses are beautifully hand painted and look so fetching. The trim on the rim is a band of gold which widens to form the gold daubs of the Racine mold and to encircle the reticulated handles. This mold was purchased from Haviland & Co. in 1931 and was their most popular mold, named Ranson after its designer. (Haviland repurchased the right to use the molds years later.) CONDITION: While this cake plate is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. There is no wear on the gold or any utensil marks. DIMENSIONS: The cake plate has a 10 1/4" diameter and is 10 7/8" handle to handle with a height of 1 1/2" at the top of the handle. HISTORY/MARKS: The Hutschenreuther porcelain story began when Karl Magnus Hutschenreuther, 1793-1845, discovered kaolin in northeastern Bavaria in 1814 where he established his company. His son Lorenz managed the Hohenberg porcelain factory from 1845-1857. He founded his own Hutschenreuther Porcelain Company in Selb in 1856 which became highly successful and 113 years later absorbed his father’s company. All of the Hutschenreuther Companies were trend setters of high quality porcelain. Hutschenreuther became known for the love of detail, distinctive brilliance of color, and lustrous beauty shown through the decorating of the fine porcelain pieces. The mark on this cake plate is that of the Hutschenreuther Company of Selb, Bavaria. The Hutschenreuther website porzellansammlung cites this mark as used 1925-1939, but based on the use of the Racine mold we can narrow the production period to 1932-1939.
