Description: Bavaria Tirschenreuth 6 Plates 7.5" Under Sea Scenes by Estelle Claus 1903-1927 Exquisite Decorative 7 1/2" SALAD PLATES Set of 6, Beautiful UNDERWATER SEA SCENES w/Green Plants, Sea Life & GOLD Trim, Hand Painted from Tirschenreuth, Bavaria, Germany, circa 1903-1927 DESCRIPTION: The beautiful salad plates were hand painted with underwater sea scenes with green plants and sea creatures. The design looks so classic. The smooth rims are trimmed in gold. This makes a beautiful display or can be used everyday. Two of the plates are unmarked, but one of those is signed by the artist, Estelle Claus. These two plates are about 1/8" smaller in diameter that the other 4. Both of these have one factory drilled hole in the back foot for hanging on the wall. Displaying in this position makes the white water lines vertical. See photo #4. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There is no wear to the gold. The photos show a full frontal view of each plate. DIMENSIONS: The plates have a diameter of 7 1/2" with a height of 7/8". HISTORY/MARKS: Carl Magnus Hutschenreuther formed his company in 1814 in Hohenberg an der Eger, Bavaria and his son, Lorenz Hutschenreuther formed his company in 1857 in Selb, Bavaria. This latter company acquired P.T. Porcelain Factory in 1927 and then in 1969 was merged with the former company and continued operation as Hutschenreuther AG (Selb, Bavaria) until 1994 when the Tirschenreuth factory was closed due to bankruptcy. This set has the underglaze "P.T." Bavaria Tirschenreuth Germany mark on it. The P. T. Bavaria Porcelain Factory Tirschenreuth was founded in 1838 in Tirshenreuth, Bavaria. After Hutschenreuther purchased the pottery in 1927, the mark was modified. The mark on 4 of the plates is cited as mark #527 w/Bavaria in Robert E. Rontgen’s Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain used 1903-1969. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
