Description: Beautiful antique and rare bronze medal of special operations instruction center. This medal was made in 1990 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the criation of the special operations instruction center on 16 April 1960, from the 9th Infantry Regiment — which had been transferred to Lamego in 1839.The Special Operations Force (FOE), better known as Rangers MHTE • MHA is a unit of the Portuguese Army designed to carry out high-risk missions, irregular operations, unconventional warfare, counter-terrorism, special reconnaissance, confrontation of targets of great importance and other activities within the scope of special operations integrated or not in detached national forces.They became better known as Rangers because the first instructor of the CTOE (Special Operations Troops Center, where the FOE course, training and preparation is given and where it is located together with its General Staff) took the Ranger course in the USA. The CIOE was created on April 16, 1960, from the 9th Infantry Regiment — which had been transferred to Lamego in 1839 — with the aim of forming and mobilizing units specialized in counter-guerrilla, psychological operations and mountaineering for the Overseas War. From there came highly qualified Special Hunters Companies that proved crucial to the conduct of the war. These companies were the main intervention force of the Portuguese Army at the beginning of the Overseas War, which was later joined by the Commando Companies. Later, they carried out national and international missions under NATO, the UN and the EU in Angola, Guinea, Zaire, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Timor-Leste, Lebanon, followed by Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo and also Uganda. They are currently deployed in Romania, Lithuania, the Central African Republic and Mali. Has 9 cm diameter, and 3 to 5 mm thickness. Weighs: 289 grams.Excellent condition.
