Please come back often, as we are always buying more goodies to list on ebay. This listing is for a gorgeous vintage 1970s, brutalist leather handbag by Carvalhu Rio Copa. This bag is just amazing! The front has a brass metal plate that is molded in Brutalist fashion around three rough gemstones. The gemstones appear to be a pale-colored amethyst, a green aventurine, and either a pale rose quartz or a white quartz nugget. The bag is an unusual shape. It's actually shaped a lot like a dog bone that has been cut in half. The bottom of the bag flares outward and pulls up slightly in the center at the base. The widest part of the bag is 12 inches. The top portion of the bag, where it is narrower is 8 inches. The bag has a really long strap with a drop of 28 inches. There is a brass, figure 8, crimper that allows the strap to be adjusted by pinching the strap closed. The brass on this component has some green corrosion on it that needs to be cleaned off. The bag and strap are beige in color and made from pliable leather. The leather at the bottom of the bag has a little crinkling in it, but I have looked at it under magnification and it isn't cracked. The leather does feel a little dry to me, however, so in order to prevent cracking in the future, I recommend the new owner use some sort of leather conditioner to soften it. It is still in good condition, however, at this time. Please keep in mind that good, and even great, vintage condition is no the same as new. The brass plating on the front has some areas with patina or tarnish that the new owner may wish to polish. My personal opionion, though, is that this adds to the Brutalist effect. The inside of the purse has an unattached satin, maybe acetate, lining, or inner pouch. This seems to be in good condition without any tears. There is a tag sewn into the seam that reads Made In Brazil. The stitching on the inside of the front flap that closes the purse has afew stray threads but the stitching all seems to be intact. These stray threads don't show when the purse is closed and barely show when opened. There is some discoloration of the glue that was used on the top seam of the front of the bag (see photos). The glue has just darkened over the years and in two spots the glue had spread out of the seam a little when the bag was made. It was probably invisible at the time. This purse is totally wearable as it is. There are a few little things to be done to ensure that it remain this way, but the new owner should have many years to enjoy this bag. The denim jacket and yellow Ostrich boots shown in the photo are there for contrast, so the light color of the bag shows up. They are not included in this listing, but they will be listed separately. The pictures are part of its description so review them carefully. I'm happy to answer any questions, so ask away. Shipping will be $9.99 USPS insured first class.
