The text below is for information only and is from the opposite separate page it cannot be supplied with the print - All spelling subject to the OCR program used BiburyThis is an exceedingly picturesque village in the Valley of the Coln. It lies either side of a hollow which has a broad flat bottom of open meadow lying between a rapid mill-stream and a broad placid reach of the Coin which catches reflection where the river makes a turn under a cliff-like escarpment with a screen of tall elms at its foot. Bibury, proper, is on the left bank with the parish church which has remains of Saxon work, including the carved imposts of the chancel-arch. The other half of the village on the right bank is called Arlington. The old houses in the picture link the two communities across the bottom of the water-meadow with the elms and escarpment at their back. They are called Arlington Row and date from the early seventeenth century. They now belong to the National Trust. Their original tenants were engaged in the woollen industry, cloth being tentered on racks on the island meadow opposite their front doors, still called Racks Eye.
