Description: For sale is a custom built 1990s Bill Davidson time trial tandem. Fillet brazed custom aero steel tubeset on original vintage Aerospoke 26" wheelset. Davidson is a true master, a staple in the Seattle scene who has been professionally active since 1973. Unique, beautiful, exciting, and purpose-built. There is no mistaking the builder's nor the machine's intent. It commands attention, from the aero headtube to the wishbone seatstays. Build quality is top notch, of course. Every bit a work of art by a modern master as a primed and tuned machine, ready for a pair of speed devils. Sizing is for average to taller riders. Captain's seat tube measures 57cm c-t-t. Stoker's seat tube measures 56cm c-t-t. Captain's standover is ~31.5". stoker's ~31.25". This is an extremely special bike which has been loads of fun to own and ride, and it is time to pass her along to new owners who will continue to give her the love she deserves. Absolutely one of a kind. Begging to be ridden FAST!!! while also being right at home in any bicycle museum. It is hard to say enough about this bicycle. There is simply not much of this caliber out there. If you are a collector, you don't have one of these in your collection. This was meticulously built up with many of the finest (and most expensive!) components available. Extreme attention was paid to every detail. A thoughtful marriage of components. The frameset and original 26" (559 ISO) Aerospoke wheels are color matched in Pearlescent White, and glisten in sunlight. Drivetrain is centered around a Boone Twist crankset in 170mm with matching Boone Titanium chainrings. All four chainrings are Ti. I've never seen another Boone tandem crankset. The cassette is also Titanium, an 8 speed Shimano XTR CS-M950. Wide range cassette gives lots of options to keep you spinning. Rear derailleur is PAUL in black, and is linked to a First Generation Avid RollAMaJig in red. Front derailleur is a Shimano Dura Ace FD-7410. These are both controlled by Dura Ace bar end shifters on the TT bars. Shifting is super crisp and snappy. The brakes are vintage Magura HS77 hydraulic brakes with matching brake levers. These brakes look and feel superb. Precise enough for feathering to control speed in corners, with the strength and reliability to stop you in any situation. Confidence in your brakes lets you open up and ride freely. These hydraulic rim brakes are extremely powerful, without the shuddering feel many mechanical brakes give, especially at very high speeds. A race machine needs fine controls. Steering is based around the vintage Chris KING sealed bearing headset, in black. Captain's cockpit is comprised of a SALSA stem holding a MAVIC 355 aero pursuit bar, with TT extensions. Aforementioned Dura-Ace bar end shifters and Magura HS77 brake levers. Stoker's cockpit is a nice and open Modolo X-Tenos anatomic drop bar, linked to a stoker stem handbuilt by Bill Davidson, also color matched to Pearlescent frameset and wheelset. Both cockpits are finished in white Cinelli tape. Very classy seating arrangements for both captain and stoker. Both positions have rare black anodized KOOKA seatposts with vintage Cinelli Volare SLX saddles. Saddles are in great shape and the leather covers show a nice patina without any rips or tears. Count the bottle cages, one, two, three, four, five, six vintage Blackburn cages. All of these are Titanium, naturally. I believe the bottom brackets are vintage TNT, with Ti spindles, though to be honest I can't remember. Crank fixing bolts are Ti. Everything spins like butter. Both the drive and timing chain are Dura Ace. Condition is excellent. This bike has been ridden, enjoyed, and always painstakingly maintained. Condition shows this. Paint is terrific with just a few chips, most notably on the captain's top tube, non drive side, a small chip on the rear dropout, drive side, both pictured. Everything looks and feels like a performance machine should. She was recently overhauled and has brand new cables, housing, tires, fresh lubrication, etc. Tires are 26" x 1" (25-559) Maxxis Dominators which have maybe 25 miles on them. Please note this is the max tire size with this brake setup. This is the definition of "one of one." Custom designed and built by an American master with a half century of pro experience.
