Description: A charming letter by composer Billy Barnes to TCM Host Robert Osborne (1932-2017), from Osborne's Estate. Among other things in the letter it mentions that they must keep up their correspondence, although Barnes admits phone calls are nicer! Mentions a mutual friend Carole, probably Carole Cooke (1924-1923). Condition: Very good with only minor handling and storage wear, was in Osborne's collection until his death and then sold off among other treasures in his estate. Size: Letter is 6.25 in. x 9 in., envelope is 4.75 in. x 6.35 in. Signed items by Barnes are so rare on the market - they're non-existent! This is signed not only on the reverse of the letter, but on the reverse of the envelope, too. So it's really two autographs of Barnes. ...and being to the legendary Bob Osborne almost makes it all the more special! - Billy Barnes (January 27, 1927 – September 25, 2012) was a composer, lyricist and actor from Los Angeles, California. Barnes may be best known for his theatrical revues and his recurring role as Mr. Edlin on the television series Mad About You. Barnes married actress Joyce Jameson in the 1950s, and the couple had one child together, son Tyler, before their divorce. Barnes and Richard T. Jordan were life partners from the early 1980s until Barnes' death, from complications associated with Alzheimer's disease, on September 25, 2012. - Robert Jolin Osborne (May 3, 1932 – March 6, 2017) was an American film historian, television presenter, author, actor and the primary host for more than 20 years of the cable channel Turner Classic Movies (TCM). Prior to hosting at TCM, Osborne had been a host on The Movie Channel, and earlier, a columnist for The Hollywood Reporter. Osborne wrote the official history of the Academy Awards, published in 1988. Osborne retired in early 2016 due to ill health and missed a number of TCM annual events over the next year. He died from natural causes at his New York City apartment in The Osborne on West 57th Street on March 6, 2017, at the age of 84. Reactions to his death included tributes from many in the entertainment industry. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released a statement saying, "The affection he had for the Oscars and the Academy was wholeheartedly reciprocated, and we are grateful for his friendship and indelible contribution to film history and our community."[34] Others in the industry who mourned Osborne included Alec Baldwin, Eva Marie Saint, Liza Minnelli, Cher, Larry King, Leonard Maltin, Patricia Arquette, Bryan Cranston, and Patton Oswalt. On the day of Osborne's death, The Hollywood Reporter published a statement by Angela Lansbury: "He was also the ultimate fan — and the ultimate friend — and our friendship will endure in my memory always"
