Description: An original 1916 Prince Albert's Somerset Light Infantry, 4th and 5th Battalions, Brass Economy Cap Badge and Pair of Brass Shoulder Titles. The cap badge is a bugle with strings, surmounted by a mural crown with a scroll above inscribed "South Africa 1900-01", with the Prince's monogram "PA" in the center. This is an economy strike version of the badge, issued in 1916. The original badge design was made in white metal. The nickel needed to make the white metal was in demand for munitions. Therefore, in 1916, the badge was produced as a solid brass badge, known as an economy strike. 3.9 X 4.1 cm. The left & right facing shoulder titles are the bugle with strings with the title "SOMERSET" beneath. 4.3 X 3.2 cm and 4.0 X 2.9 cm. In very good condition. The loop fittings on the back are intact.
