Description: Original c.1940s Framed8x10 Photo of a NURSE By Paul Jordan - Baltimore Framed Size approx. 13.5" x 16.5"Signed Mounting by Paul Jordan [ ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER... ]Paul Jordan owned and operated a well-known Baltimore photo studio for 40 years. He was born and raised Paul Schwarzchild in Munich, Germany, where he began his career as a photographer. After fleeing the rise of Nazism in 1934, he immigrated to New York City and went to work in an uncle's art gallery. Later in the '30s, he and his wife moved to Baltimore and established a photo studio on Eastern Avenue in Highlandtown. After becoming a U.S. citizen, he changed his name to Paul Jordan, taking his mother's maiden name. During World War II, Paul Jordan served as a combat photographer with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. He was appointed the Army's representative to work along with Navy photographers taking and processing pictures of the Japanese surrender aboard the battleship USS Missouri. Mr. Jordan sold his business and retired in 1977. He passed away in 2005 in Baltimore at the age of 92. [ FEATURES & CONDITION... ] - Beautiful condition -- from a non-smoking environment. No issues with the photograph. Lovely.- The 8x10 photo is mounted in its original paperboard folder, signed "A Portrait by Paul Jordan."- This is presented in a period (and probably original, from the same studio) high-end metal frame with glass, which has the lovely 1940s wine-color velveteen back and stand. It will stand on a desk, or else you can hang it on a wall -- since it also has its original cable. - Finally, the entire package is encased in a very lovely solid-wood frame that is made to fit perfectly around the metal frame. It has goldtone filigree, as shown. Whether this exterior wooden frame is also original, or if it was added later, I do not know. But it is just fabulous. And, with this wooden frame in place, it still stands or hangs. - The only condition issue to mention is a bit of "dampstain" at the bottom corner of the paperboard folder. (See final photo.) This does not affect the photograph itself. The above is my good-faith attempt to disclose all noteworthy issues. Keep in mind that vintage/antique items always show their age. (Don't we all!?) It would be impossible to mention every tiny detail, so please expect that there will be something about this item (or lot) that's not perfect and may need touch-up. PLEASE SUPERSIZE ALL PHOTOS, AND ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING/BUYING. I'LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER.Please be aware -- as with ALL antique and vintage paintings, prints, and other framed items -- that there is a potential (though unlikely) that the original paint on the frame may contain lead compounds, and (even MORE unlikely, though possible) asbestos-related materials. If this is a concern, one option is that you can apply a clear matte sealer over it so nobody comes in direct contact with the original paint.
