Description: Scarce early original vintage edition of CALIFORNIA MINING TOWNS offered by the Book Club of California, San Francisco in 1933-34. This is a series of twelve (12) rare early views of towns and camps of the Gold Rush. This First Edition was limited to 500 copies, each printed by a separate West Coast printer, and enclosed in a chemise within a matching blue slip case with black leather labels on the spine. This series was issued to members for each month from Nov. 1933 through Oct. 1934, plus a final pamphlet containing a foreword and map of CA in 1851. This forward and map are present but not shown for lack of photo space in listing. I can send you a scan of this if interested. Each town is represented by an illustration tipped into a folder with a brief essay by Oscar Lewis, each folder printed by a different California press. Slip case measures 9 x 10 1/4 inches and is in very good condition with light wear around edges and light rubbing to the four 3/16 inch spine edges. This edition is complete with no missing or damaged pages and all the inside pages are clean and bright (see scans). Please email with any questions and please "VIEW SELLERS OTHER ITEMS". Thanks.
