This bank chartered in December of 1931, taking the name “Carthage National Exchange Bank, Carthage, New York”. The bank issued 46,596 small size Nationals from December of 1931 thru July of 1935 when the note issuing period ended. Carthage was the home to four National Banks from the period of 1879 – 1935. This was the only National Bank left standing in Carthage, NY in July of 1935 when the National Banknote issuing period ended! The note has four full even margins, both obverse and reverse. There is dirt on both sides of the note form the years that it spent in circulation. I do not see any rips, tears or pinholes in this note, just good honest wear.
