While this watch looks like it is solid gold, in fact it is 'Vermeil' - Cartier's proprietary process of Gold Plating over Sterling Silver aka 'Plaque D'Or.' After almost 25 years, the Gold Plating is still mostly in tact with only a few areas of spotting around 4:00 and 7:00 where the gold plate shows slight discoloration. Our detailed photos magnify this effect and make it look much worse than it looks in person. As a 25-year veteran of the luxury watch space, trust me when i tell you this watch has to be one of the most well-preserved and most complete examples of a Cartier from the 1990's i've ever seen.
