Description: Carved Soapstone Eskimo in Canoe or Kayak-8" Long-Signed Chuck Poupart -Stone . DESCRIPTION: Up for auction is carved stone or soapstone Eskimo in a canoe or kayak. This is a small piece measuring 8" long. There is a hand-carved wood paddle attached to the top of the kayak. The Eskimo is holding a HIGHLY DETAILED spear, which has a rope sinew animal parts made into rope and solid arrow like point see photos. Check out the photos real sinew ( ligament ) is used for the rope. the Spear point is stone and as in a real spear separates when the hunted item is struck. I am also including for free a soap stone marine animal carved in Canada by an unknown artist FOR FREE . The bottom of the kayak is signed by the artist Chuck. After doing a little research it may be by the artist Chuck Poupart who was born in 1951 in Timahawk, Wisconsin. From the Lac Du Flambeau Reservation. His style was influenced by Eddie Omnik, an Eskimo from Point Hope, Alaska whom was one of his teachers. I have no way of knowing for sure. I HAVE FOUND SIMILAR Carvings ( JUST LIKE THIS ONE ) have included a close-up photo of the signature in case you care to do any research. I Have included a Signature from Chucks work it is the same. This item just has his first name on it. VERY VERY DETAILED WORK . Many Hours were used to make this life like hunting scene.
