Description: Images one through three show details of flowering mature plants of this clone that are part of my permanent collection. The fourth and fifth image shows the fully established offset for sale, at flowering size, with two recently-emerged branches that are freshly hardened off. Planted in pure NZ sphagnum in a 3.5 plastic pot. Ceratostema zamorana is a recently-described (2021) Neotropical species of the rhododendron and blueberry family from southeastern Ecuador. The plant shown here was included in what are apparently mixed collections of two closely-related species with different leaf and flower characters that were lumped together in the formal description by Jiménez & Vélez-Abarca. In my opinion, this particular plant is one of the most beautiful of all the New World Ericaceae, and combines extraordinary, long-lasting flowers with handsome foliage and large, near spherical caudexes when mature. Unlike many Neotropical blueberries, at larger sizes and under optimum environmental conditions this species can flower sporadically for extended periods from mid-summer well into mid-winter. Suitable for permanent display in 8" hanging pots and is free-flowering even when small. Choice species - extremely rare in cultivation and very limited. All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
