In 1961, he moved to Peking for further study and then to Hong Kong in 1962, where he became known for his use of horsehair and heavily textured oil painting techniques. Chen Mao's works are celebrated for their color, texture, and sublime imagery, inviting viewers to use their own experiences and imagination to interpret the mood and content.
