Civil War Union Major General John M. Schofield Autograph W/Rank Medal Honor

Description: John McAllister Schofield [1831 1906] was an American soldier who was awarded the Medal of Honor during the American Civil War, later appointed as the United States Secretary of War and Commanding General of the United States Army. Schofield began his military career in 1853, during the American Civil War he held numerous high-level commands achieving the rank of Major General in 1863. Then Major Schofield was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on August 10, 1861, at Wilson's Creek, Missouri. After the war he continued with his military career and was appointed as the 28th United States Secretary of War 1868 - 1869, and as the Commanding General of the U.S. Army from 1888 - 1895. Listed for auction is the autograph of John McAllister Schofield signed on a card. The autograph is signed ''John Schofield Maj Genl U.S.A.'' in black fountain pen. The card measures 4.00 x 2.50 inches, it has trivial toning otherwise it is in fine condition. The autograph is authentic and is a desirable example of this prominent Union commander, statesman and Medal of Honor Recipient.
