In less than a second - the start relay disconnects the capacitor from the circuit to avoid overload. (The run capacitor is always energized while running).Standard start capacitors require an additional start relay. Both of them have a limited lifetime because of the devastating heat on the roof-top of an RV! If either one of the two fails, it will kill the compressor! Always replace both parts together! Our new Hard-Start Kit replaces the old start capacitor AND the start relay (PTCR-Relay) that is wired up with the capacitor. Both - the start capacitor and the relay are wired up inside a protective plastic housing!
