Description: John M Chivington, Colonel of the Colorado Militia fought at Glorietta Pass, New Mexico, 1862, but in 1864 achieved notoriety and infamy for commanding the Massacre at Sand Creek, Colorado Territory slaughtering Black Kettle's peaceful village of Cheyenne. A very rare, unlisted CDV photo image of Chivington, seated , taken at Stevenson & Marshall's Photographic Rooms, Leavenworth, Kansas. Approx 4 x 2.5". Age spots, edge wear, Overall VG. Comes w bio info. I have never seen another of this pose. It is perhaps late Civil War as his face bears a strong resemblance to the postwar image of Chivington wearing his Civil War veteran medals than to the image commonly seen.
