Description: In very good condition. This is a Top-Quality CD of 475 train order images from the Colorado & Southern Railway and the Santa Fe/D&RGW Joint Line. There are 369 train order images from the C&S and 106 from the Joint Line, all on Santa Fe forms. Included are two station lists showing each location and the number of orders copied at that location. Also included is a small timetable compendium of 9 different timetables, covering the C&S system, and part of the Fort Worth & Denver Railway also, plus the Santa Fe Joint Line, of which the C&S was a tenant road. These timetables are: BN-C&S Denver Div. #1 8-1-1971 8 pages; BN-C&S Denver Div. #2 6-10-1973 10 pages; BN-FWD Fort Worth Div. #1 4-4-1982 22 pages. The C&S was absorbed into the FW&D before this timetable was issued; C&S-FWD system public timetable dated January 22, 1967 4 pages; C&S-FWD system public timetable dated May 1, 1959 7 pages; C&S FWD Wichita Falls Division #1 9-15-1963 18 pages; ATSF-DRGW Joint Line ETT #2 10-25-1964 12 pages; ATSF-DRGW Joint Line ETT #3 1-6-1980 10 pages; and ATSF-DRGW Joint Line ETT #3 7-9-1989 17 pages. These 9 timetables, both public and employee, cover all of this territory, so you can see where each location was, with respect to the others. This was a very strategic piece of main-line Railroad, and the C&S was all train-order territory until the advent of track warrants, around 1986. There are 108 timetable pages included, both public and employee, for much better reference in location coverage. The public timetable from 1959 has an excellent map included. There are 68 different train order locations represented here, with at least one train order image from each location. Ages of the orders range from 1900 to 1985. This is very comprehensive coverage of this line operations-wise. All of the C&S was single track, even though CTC'd in later years. After CTC was installed, train orders from all intermediate points became very rare, account there were very few instances where one of these locations would put out an order, due to CTC and radio communication. As described, the Joint Line was double track ABS, then CTC, from Denver to Pueblo. This trackage was owned jointly by the Santa Fe and the Rio Grande Railroad, with the C&S and the Rock Island as tenant lines. Here are a couple of notes: First, the Union Pacific, Denver & Gulf Railroad became the Colorado & Southern Railway in 1898. There is one order from Boulder, Colorado on a UPD&G form dated in 1900 included in this CD. Also, Guernsey, Wyoming is not a physical C&S location. It was located on the old Burlington line 8 miles east of Wendover. Crews in later years got their orders at Guernsey and were taxied over to Wendover, to catch their runs on southbound trains on the C&S. This location is shown in the dialog box as either CB&Q or BN office, depending on the date. Wendover, Wyoming was closed as an agency and train order office sometime in the 1960s. Guernsey had some Diesel shops and other CB&Q/BN facilities, so Wendover became a prime candidate for the station closer's axe. On March 3, 1970, the CB&Q was merged into Burlington Northern, but the C&S, and the FW&D as well, maintained their separate identities until the early 1980's, when finally officially merged into Burlington Northern. All of the C&S orders in this CD are bona-fide C&S orders, regardless of the train order form that was used. The C&S and FW&D started using CB&Q forms in the 1940s, and BN forms in the 1970s. Orders on actual C&S forms are very rare items indeed. The Santa Fe/DRGW Joint Line effectively cut the C&S in two, as the C&S and the Rock Island were tenant roads on the Joint Line. The Santa Fe and the Rio Grande each owned one track. All of the operations were covered with Santa Fe train orders and clearance cards. There are 106 Santa Fe train orders and clearance cards represented here in this CD, in a separate electronic folder for easy reference. The 12 pictures shown are just a sampling of the quantity and variety of locations, engine numbers (a few steam) and other operations unique to this very well-traveled piece of Railroad. The orders in this CD shows many operators' names, track conditions, operating procedures, and many meets and flag orders, all consistent with train-order operation. Even during CTC times, orders were still required as slow orders. This is some of the best Railroad reading anywhere. Very nice items that are obsolete and no longer used by any Railroad. S&H $4.50.
