Description: The item is an original poster for the award-winning documentary film, Complicit, that bears the authentic signatures of 6 surviving SS St. Louis passengers. This one of kind item is part of the saga of the Jewish refugee shipSS St. Louis that departed Germany in May 1939, carrying 937 mostly Jews, attempting to escape Nazi persecution. The passengers were bound for Havana, Cuba. Upon arriving in Havana,the passengers and Captain pleaded with the Cuban authorities to be allowed to enter Havana. They were denied asylum.. The ship's captain then steered the ship to the coast of Miami and the passengers pleaded with theRoosevelt Administration for safe haven in the US but were refused. The passengers were also denied safe havenin Canada and countries in Latin America. The 6 signatures on the poster are the same as those passenger signatures on Senate Resolution 111 passedunanimously by the US Senate in May 2009 (see photos 3 and 4). The passenger signed this Resolution which was accepted into the US State Department Archives atthe September 12, 2012, Special Ceremony authorized by Secretary of State Clinton honoring thepassengers for their contribution to American society. The ceremony included the first ever "Admission ofWrongdoing" for the US refusal to grant the SS St. Louis safe when they were off the coast of Miamiin early June 1939. The film poster has the original signatures of 6 surviving SS St. Louis passengers and thus becomes aone of a kind collector's item that will continue to increase in value. Since 2014, the film, Complicit, has been screened in the US and internationally in 10 countries and 4 languages. The proceeds benefit the SS St. Louis Legacy Project, a 501(c)(3) educational foundation.
