Description: This is a Regis design champagne / seafood cocktail glass designed by Edward Kayser for Crown Corning Limited, Waterloo, NSW, between 1969 and 1972. The Sydney glass maker Crown Crystal Glass (from 1972 to 1988 trademarked as Crown Corning) based at Waterloo was the largest and most successful manufacturer of Australian domestic glassware in the last half of the 20th Century. Many of the company's award-winning products can still be found in Australian households and a successful export drive sent Australian glass to many countries including the USA, UK, Netherlands, Germany, and even Scandinavia - itself a major exporter of quality glass. The entry of Regis into new markets was supported by the Department of Trade and Industry and Crown Crystal Glass was one of the top 25 Australian export manufacturers of 1971. The Crown Crystal glasses of this period are significant examples of glass design and development at the time of their production - showcasing changes in both style and the technology of glass manufacture. The iconic Regis range of glasses designed by Edward Kayser used high speed glass production equipment previously only used to make beer glasses. These glasses provide a strong link to the history of the Australian innovation to produce wine glasses in one piece. The Regis design was Crown Crystal's first modern quality drinking glass and was available in different sizes for varying functions.
