Description: This is a custom .22 caliber, regulated, PCP air rifle built by Ron Robinson (highly accomplished shooter and author of 5 airgun books. His first was “Manic Compressive” and his latest is “Awesome Air Pistols!”). this air rifle is in good to very good cosmetic condition and functions perfectly but does have a very slow leak as per details below -- please read. **This does not affect shooting performance in any way** This was built on the famous QB78/79 platform and the custom stock was also done by Ron Robinson. The thumb rest on the stock is perfect and the adjustable butt pad is a wonderful feature. It was this airgun that Ron Robinson used to take second place in Hunter Class at the 2009 FT National Championships at Yegua Airgun Club. This is a very quiet airgun! I am the third owner of this rifle and am only selling because I prefer .177 and am thinning the herd. This rifle is in very nice cosmetic condition as per pics and in perfect operating condition. That being said, and as always with full disclosure, I have experienced an intermittent leak that does not affect performance in any way. I last filled it to 3000 psi 3 weeks ago and is now at 2200 psi so technically there is a “leak” but I am just making the potential buyer aware. Sometimes a poppet or check valve will leak intermittently...they are the only dynamic (moving) seals which means they are more susceptible to it but there seems to be no real evidence that either of them is leaking. For most of us, this would not really be a serious issue and this air rifle is a tinker's delight anyway. If it is an issue for you, please do not purchase this rifle (or ask about silly lowball prices). I do NOT do airgun repairs so I only know what was shared with me. The very competent airgunsmith, nervoustrig, went through this gun completely. Here’s a list of what was done: Work performed: ============== Re-seal: a. slow leaks present at valve body and at air regulator -> bottle interface (both size -113 O-rings) b. air regulator spool O-rings were beginning to look suspect (discolored, rough surface) c. 100% replacement of all seals, down to the check valve O-ring on the Foster fill port Valve: a. installed new poppet (OEM type to preserve state of tune) b. replaced plastic spring guide (glue/epoxy had failed) with brass guide affixed with bearing retainer (Loctite 638) c. noted a gap between the valve and the backer block; made and installed 0.040" shim to prevent valve from shifting under pressure Deburred parts: a. receiver: barrel O-rings had bites taken out of them b. tank block: thru port had taken bite out of O-ring on tank bonnet c. air tube: to ensure tank block O-rings don't get nicked Air Regulator: a. Tested output pressure before disassembly: 1000psi slowly increasing to 1100psi over period of ~2 minutes b. Valve seat was dimpled (source of creep). Resurfaced it and dressed it smooth out to 7000 grit. On reassembly, tested again to confirm setpoint and that creep is resolved. c. Replaced spool O-rings with cast polyurethane Disogrin® type in 90 durometer (-008 and -012) (please Google Disogrin to read more about the benefits!) Reassembly: a. Thoroughly washed and degreased and dried all parts b. Applied a thin coat of silicone oil to the pressurized portion of the air tube c. Burnished molybdenum disulfide dry lubricant to all sliding metal parts * spring, spring guide, pins Chronographed at 735fps with 15.9gr (19.1fpe). Velocity is consistent/reliable after sitting idle overnight (no evidence of regulator creep).” I’ve shot 25-30 15.9gr JSB pellets and confirmed that it’s doing 734-740fps and is very accurate – kind of tackdriver status – such as hitting aspirin tab sized targets at 30yds consistently with 15.9gr JSBs. The bottle on the rifle fills to 3,000psi and gets 70-80 shots. The vastly underrated CVLife 6-24X50 AO R/G illum. scope (plus rings) ($50 added value) is a great match for this rifle and performs well. I am also including a nice Allen soft gun bag ($19 added value) with this listing. That “cylindrical shaped item” on the trigger group was for the safety lever. It is difficult to use and the QB is easy to de-cock so most people never reinstall it (it has to be removed to take the action from the stock).
