Large 20 X 24 painting by Cydney Grossman (born 1909 New York) in the original hand carved wood frame of 31 X 27.5 This is a rare painting for its content as well as it's size.This lovely piece of art is titled "The Milliner". The milliner was a shop where a lady could get her hat decorated with ribbons and fresh flowers for her outing. Renoir did many paintings of the Milliners and women in hats. Perhaps this was Cydney's inspiration. This painting is a real treasure for sure.The painting is in good condition with no issues to note. I'm sure the painting could use a good cleaning and a new frame if desired. The light weight wood frame has some dings. The hanging wire has come off of one side, but I just reattached it and hung it on my wall for safe keeping. The verso of the painting is written: "The Milliner"Cydney"All reproductive rights reserved"Well known for fine paintings such as this as well as period pieces such as ballerinas.Prints have been made of his paintings and are for sale on ebay, etsy and other websites hence the "rights reserved".
