[17] CONDITION: The slip case shows definite signs of shelf wear, as do the paper covers. The two volumes look to be in very good condition. Covers, spine, binding, and pages are unmarked and clean cut. The books have been in a smoke free house for the past 5 years, but we do have cats. This new translation from the Spanish has critical text and is based upon the first editions of 1605 and 1615, and with variant readings, variorum notes, and an lntroduction by SAMUEL PUTNAM. He is best known for his novel Don Quixote, a work considered as the first modern novel. Much of his life was spent in relative poverty and obscurity, which led to many of his early works being lost… In 1569, Cervantes was forced to leave Spain and move to Rome, where he worked in the household of a cardinal.
