IMPORTANT AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BY DOUGLAS MACARTHUR PROVIDING INFORMATION ON HIS INFANCY AND FATHER Important autograph letter signed by Douglas MacArthur providing information on his infancy and father: “I was an infant at Fort Wingate - 1881-1882. My father was at that time a Captain in command of Co. ‘K’ - 13th U.S. Infantry. He was ordered from there to Fort Selden - New Mexico. I have no personal remembrance of Fort Wingate. D. MacA.” “I WAS AN INFANT AT FORT WINGATE - 1881-1882. MY FATHER WAS AT THAT TIME A CAPTAIN IN COMMAND OF CO. ‘K’ - 13TH U.S. INFANTRY. HE WAS ORDERED FROM THERE TO FORT SELDEN - NEW MEXICO. I HAVE NO PERSONAL REMEMBRANCE OF FORT WINGATE.” Handwritten at the bottom of a typed letter signed by Fort Wingate Historian Elaine W. Higgins requesting information from MacArthur while he lived at the fort, contains one page, measures 10 by 8 inches, created in New York City in November 1958, and in very good condition with dampstaining and toning primarily on the bottom border and separations to the center folds.
