Printed Photograph and Quotation signed: "Douglas MacArthur" as Five-Star General of the Army, in program, 12p, 12x14. "The National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame Annual Awards Dinner", The Grand Ballroom, The Waldorf-Astoria, New York City, Tuesday, December 1, 1959. Signed on the page bearing a printed photograph and quotation: "For American youth, as it crosses the threshold of manhood, the game of football has become a rallying point, to build courage when courage seems to die, to restore faith where there seems to be little cause for faith, to create hope as hope becomes forlorn." The sepia photographic image is approximately 6¾x8 and could be easily removed from the program. It was at this dinner that the MacArthur Bowl trophy was first presented to the top college football team. New members of the College Football Hall of Fame were also announced at this dinner. The program was prepared by "Sports Illustrated". MacArthur, Commander of U.S. forces in the Far East in 1941, was Allied Supreme Commander in the S.W. Pacific (1942) and of occupational forces in Japan (1945-1951). He accepted the surrender of Japan aboard the battleship Missouri on September 2, 1945. MacArthur was promoted to General of the Army in December 1944. Cover is slightly creased. Booklet and signature page are in fine condition.
