For PBS Presents: The War That made America The War that Made America is a PBS miniseries (produced by WQED Pittsburgh) about the French and Indian War, which was first aired in two parts on January 18 and 25, 2006. The series features extensive reenactments of historical events, with on-screen narration provided by Canadian actor Graham Greene. Much of the story focuses upon George Washington, connecting his role in the war with the later American Revolution. Pontiac's War, which followed the French and Indian War, is also covered in the series. The series was filmed in June, July, and August 2004 in and around the Western Pennsylvania region where many events actually took place during the war. The War that Made America" brings to life a vastly important time in American history, when events set forces in motion that would culminate in the American Revolution. The dramatic documentary tells the story of the French and Indian War (1754-1763), which began in the wilderness of the Pennsylvania frontier and spread throughout the colonies, into Canada, and ultimately around the world. "The War That Made America" combines a commitment to accuracy with a compelling portrayal of the dangerous world of the 18th-century frontier. A central figure is George Washington, a brash and ambitious young officer in his twenties hoping to make his reputation in the military -- and whose blunders inadvertently trigger the war. A primary focus of the series, and a story that has been distorted or long forgotten, is the critical military importance and strategic diplomacy of Native Americans in the conflict between the English and French. It was a war the British won, but the fruit of their victory contained the seeds of the Revolutionary War. The program is narrated and hosted by Graham Greene, the Academy-Award nominated actor for "Dances With Wolves" and an Oneida Indian whose ancestors fought in the French and Indian War. For A&E Presents: Biography of Paul Revere The Midnight Ride A ROUSINGLY UNIQUE LOOK AT THE FAMED PATRIOT, CHRONICLING HIS SERVICE AS A CONTINENTAL ARMY COLONEL TO HIS PROSPEROUS LIFE AS AN EARLY AMERICAN INDUSTRIALIST. This DVD is a solid biography of Paul Revere. Not only does it tell the story of Revere and his pre and post Revolutionary activities, it gives some background information about American society of the 18th century and the Revolution and early Republic in general. For HBO: Jon Adam Complete Box Set Mini-Series Emmy Award-winning director Tom Hopper takes the helm for this epic, seven-part miniseries produced by Playtone's Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and presenting American history as seen from the perspective of fiercely independent founding father John Adams (Paul Giamatti). Based on author David McCullough's Pulitzer Prize-winning biography, the film tells the tale of a leader whose remarkable vision helped to guide a burgeoning republic through an especially tumultuous period. Thanks to the tireless support of his loving wife Abigail (Laura Linney), and lifelong friendship with political rivalry Thomas Jefferson (Stephen Dillane), John Adams rose to prominence as the spokesman for the American independence movement before moving on to become America's first ambassador to Holland and England, the first American Vice President, the second American President, and the father of the sixth American President. As with McCullough's best-selling biography, the film draws on a comprehensive collection of letters, diaries, and family papers in order to create the most accurate representation of Adams' life and achievements ever captured on film. For The History Channel - The American Revolution Box Set For The Gettysburg Story, 150 Year edition DVD The Gettysburg Story brings alive America’s greatest battle in a fresh, dynamic way. Filmmaker Jake Boritt makes aerial drone cinematography, helicopter mounted cameras, motion control time-lapse, and 3D animated maps tell the epic story of Lincoln, Lee, Meade, and more for a new generation. Based on the best-selling Battlefield Auto Tour, The Gettysburg Story is narrated by acclaimed actor Stephen Lang (Avatar, Gettysburg). Unprecedented access to the Gettysburg National Military Park brings stunning imagery of the exact ground where events changed the course of history. You will see Gettysburg —a unique, timeless American place—as it’s never been seen before. The Gettysburg Story," directed by Jake Boritt and narrated by Stephen Lang is simply an outstanding visual and narrative story about the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1-3, 1863. The story is narrated by the outstanding actor/narrator Stephen Lang (General George Pickett in the movie "Gettysburg" and Thomas J. (Stonewall" Jackson in the movie Gods & Generals). Lang narrates not only the story but the leading figures that were in the battle. From Robert E. Lee to a private John C. West of the 4th Texas Infantry, Lang gives the emotions and the accents that bring the men to life. Jake Borritt directed stunning visual views of the battlefield and monuments located throughout Gettysburg National Military Park. Absolutely beautiful scenery that 155 years ago was truly "the Valley of the Shadow of Death." This DVD is particularly significant because of the angles and locations of the battlefield that Borritt directed. From a "flying overhead" sequence to an up close and personal view of the monuments, “The Gettysburg Story," is a very welcome addition to the story of the battle of Gettysburg. You don't have to travel to Gettysburg first to enjoy this movie. When you see it, you feel like you are right there in the battlefield. If you do plan to visit the battlefield, then you must see this first to understand how big of a battle it was and the different scenery and locations that were part of the battle. I can't recommend this DVD highly enough. It is a MUST have for any serious historian, student, enthusiast and author of the battle. It is one of the best if not the best movies about the battle of Gettysburg produced thus far. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
