Description: Original letter to individual before the 1953 inauguration; signed by Dwight D. Eisenhower, October 6, 1952. From his offices in the Commodore Hotel in New York. Post marked October 8, 1952. (Prior to the election.) I clear out homes for families that have lost loved ones. This document was mailed by individuals on 6.8.15 to Ms. Merritt. (The recipient.) During her life she was a political activist. It looks like this letter became separated from her, somehow and then was returned to her, 6.08.15. The letter has red dots on the back corners, indicating it may have been framed or mounted somehow. I was connected to her by relations. (Second cousin.) She died and left her effects, which I later cleared, from the home, upon the death of my cousin. Looks like she wrote to Candidate Eisenhower as a 10 year old child. The letter is from Eisenhower, who thanks her for her missive and expresses, “My staff and I deeply desire that our efforts will succeed in making the world a better place for our young people.” Quite a find. It is typed on Weston’s DEFLANCE BOND 100% RAF Content stationery. Stamped with a purple Thomas Jefferson 3cent stamp and postmarked “in the spirit of Paul Revere,” “BUY DEFENSE BONDS” Ships best way to continental USA and eBay global desitinations, in cardboard carrier to protect from damage. Ms. Merritt was born and raised in Michigan and eventually settled in Austin Texas. I have her yearbooks from Jackson, Michigan listed for sale currently; if you are looking for proof of her domicile when she received this letter. Apparently, Cynthia was 10 years old when she wrote to General Eisenhower. I would be happy to provide pictures from that yearbook for proof of her time in Michigan.
