Description: Early Edo Period Shinto Buddhist Wood Sculpture. This is an early large (27 inches tall) polychrome wood Shinto/Buddhist sculpture. The figure is in Heian period costume and the hands and head are worn down due to age. The head is also lightly in place and loose. There is calligraphy in the inside of the head and neck. The eyes are inset glass and the expression is very delicately carved. The base is separated and is modern. The white paint is likely a more contemporary repaint that has fallen off. I love it but I have to sell it to make room for new items.
