Description: Early WW2 M1917A1 Kelly US Army Military Combat Helmet Named w/ Liner & Strap This helmet comes from the Ernest estate, the son of Captain Malcolm Ernest of Albert Lea, MN. This is Captain Ernest's helmet when he served in the US Army Air Corps from 1943-1947. The information from the estate said Captain Ernest served at the 140th Army Air Force Base near Tripoli, Libya. Based on the inscription in the helmet, he served with the 89th and reached the rank of Lieutenant with this helmet. I am unable to find exactly what unit the 89th is. That is all the information I was able to gather on this particular helmet. Fantastic condition for its age. The helmet has some minor scratches and scrapes from age and use. The leather is in great condition with some scuffing and discoloration from age and use. The leather is supple and is not cracking or dry. The straps are in similar condition, with some marks and scuffing from age. The buckles that attach the strap to the liner has some corrosion as shown. The buckles on the strap are in great condition. Please refer to photos for complete condition.
