Description: Here you have a wonderful bit of VINTAGE WORLD WAR II MEMORABILIA! Please...SEE THE SCANS! This is an original 1945 SOLDIER-CREATED SOUVENIR OF HIS WORLD WAR II SERVICE IN DUTCH NEW GUINEA! This is a block of ebony with a metal plaque attached that reads "1945 DUTCH NEW GUINEA." This measures 10 inches X 3 inches, and stands 2 3/4 inches tall. This came from PRIVATE VERNON W WHITE of Liberty and Chetopa, Kansas. Included with this are some paper items from Private White. There is a certificate from the June 11, 1944 crossing of the International Date Line on the S.S. JOHN C AINSWORTH... There is a large color postcard of the U.S.S. GENERAL W.C. LANGFITT (AP-151) Another such certificate from January 26, 1946 on the U.S.S. W.C. LANGFITT... As well, there is a pair of membership cards (looks like they were meant to be cut from the sheet) from the AMIHA CLUB of HOLLANDIA, DUTCH NEW GUINEA with VERNON W WHITE welcomed to the Masonic Fellowship of that Club... The paper items have significant wear and folds. They are a fine bit of provenance for the ebony piece. The souvenir ebony is heavy! It weighs almost 2 pounds...
