At the age of five, while visiting with his father at the homeof friends, Eddie spotted a guitar hanging on the wall. His re-action was typical of a five-year old: he cried for the guitar. Laterhis father purchased this same instrument for him, and since thattime, tens of thousands have been blessed by his musical ability.Eddie’s love for gospel music springs from the influence of aChristian home upon his life. He was born near Charleston, Mis-sissippi and spent his childhood in that area. When he was twelveyears old, conviction seized his heart and he surrendered his lifeto God.While still in his teens, Eddie felt the call to the ministry andbegan preaching before he was twenty. Since that time he hassuccessfully combined his talents as a musician and singer withliis calling from God. This unique combination has been a sourceof inspiration and spiritual blessing to those with whom he hasbeen associated.For a number of years, his efforts were devoted entirely to theevangelistic ministry. This work took him into eighteen states,including Hawaii, and the Caribbean area. His devotion to Godand sincere desire to use his talent for the glory of God has beena particular inspiration to young people. He worked with youthgroups in Iowa and Georgia, and has been active in Christiancamping and camp meetings, serving as evangelist, teacher andcounsellor.From the evangelistic field, Eddie entered pastoral work in 1962.While serving in his first pastorate at Dahlonega, Georgia, he waschosen the most outstanding young man of the county by theChamber of Commerce and was listed in the 1964 edition of OUT-STANDING YOUNG MEN OF AMERICA. From Dahlonega, hemoved to Ft. Myers, Florida to continue his pastoral ministry.In addition to his effective pulpit ministry, his musical’ talentshave not gone without recognition. He began recording for theBroadcast Record Club in 1958, and by popular vote of the clubmembers, was chosen the top singer for the club in 1963.
