Description: Group of Four (4) Engraved Prints of the Alamo San Antonio, TexasThis listing is offered for the benefit of a youngster who was recently orphaned by a drunk driver. The family had no insurance so I am trying to help as best I can. Offered here is a group of four (4) engraved prints relating to the famous Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. Print 1, the “Fall of the Alamo” is “Copyrighted 1886 by O. M. Dunham” which may indicate it was from extracted from a book done in honor of the 50th anniversary of the fall of the Alamo on March 6, 1836. Curiously the Alamo appears on page 69 under the headline “The United States–Mexican War” which is not accurate. The fall of the Alamo occurred during the Texas War for independence. On the reverse of the etching, page 70 from the original book, is an etching of Samuel F. B. Morse. Which may mean the famous (and true) story of Morse offering the rights to his telegraph invention to Sam Houston in 1838 may have been included. The page measures approximately 10 x 7.0 inches; the image is 6 x 8. Excellent condition. Print 2 is an ad from Harper’s Magazine where the Missouri, Kansas, & Texas (Katy) Railroad promoted San Antonio and the Alamo. The Harper’s issue is not indicated but the Hamburg-American ad on the reverse side lists cruise departures in 1903 so it assumed that the page was included in an issue from that year. The page measures approximately 9.25 x 6.5 inches, the Alamo image is 5½ x 3. Excellent condition. Print 3 is a simple little engraved image of the front of the Alamo mission. The reverse is blank indicating it was removed from an early (unknown) book. Page is 5 x 8 inches, the Alamo image is 4 x 3.Print 4 is actually an image of the early Alamo Monument that appeared in the Year Book For Texas, date unknown, and originally appeared in the Quarterly of the Texas Historical Association, no. 4, April in 1903, page 301. One corner of the pages is missing and a small tear on the right side was repaired with acid-free tape. Page 6 x 9 inches, image is 4 x 4½ inches. Please Note: The watermark “eBay Scan” does NOT appear on the actual item.
