Description: Up for sale is a fantastic, engraving from the 18th Century, titled "Vista De La Casa Real De L'Opera, Hazia El Pala cio real a berlin - View of the Royal House of the Opera ..." (??). In the 18th and 19th centuries a device with a lens and mirror called the zograscope was used to give an illusion of depth to hand colored engravings called vue d’optique prints. The title is given in two languages along the bottom. There is usually a mirror image of the basic title - specifically for the zograscope - that appears at the top, above the illustration - You cannot see this on this engraving and I'm not sure if it's there, or not - as this engraving has not been examined outside of the frame. This engraving is hand-colored and professionally framed in a black wooden frame. It is approximately 18" x 14". Overall, the engraving is in Fair Condition. There is some discoloring, spotting, stains and browning. There are some creases and wrinkles in the paper. There are black spots in the middle of the engraving and some blue "paint drip" marks in the center near the title. Some foxing and spotting. It is an excellent investment and a superb example of this great artist's work - a perfect piece for any collector! Other dings here and there.
