Description: Eucalyptus deglupta is a tree in the Myrtaceae family. Its native range is from the Philippines to Papuasia. Other familiar names are Indonesian Gum, Mindanao Gum Tree, Rainbow Bark, and Rainbow Eucalyptus. It grows naturally in the rainforests of Australia. This species is one of four species in the Genus Eucalyptus that extends outside of Australia. The pulp is processed into making paper in the Philippines. It can grow to around 250 feet tall with a buttress 13 feet in diameter. The smooth, orange-tinted bark peels off in strips which will reveal colors like green, grey, purplish-brown, and red. The leaves are 3-6 inches long and 2-3 inches wide. The flowers are born on an inflorescence with seven pale green to white flowers. It likes to grow in full sun and will require some water needs until established. Zones 9-11 Germination Sow seeds on top of the soil, tamp them into the soil and do not cover them with soil. Keep moist by misting the soil while in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 14-60 days.
