Description: EV Electro-Voice 15" 3-Way Speaker System In Marquis Enclosures EV Electro-Voice 15" 3-Way Speaker System In Marquis Enclosures General: These speakers qualify for what we call "Survivors", meaning they have gone through decades of enjoyment and ownership without substantial wear and tear. This is specially hard to find with vintage speakers as they inevitably experience a wet basement, road trip to college or a leaky plant placed on top. If you look at the pictures closely you will likely notice the gorgeous deep patina on the wood, the unique vintage fabric grill covering and the beefy magnet structures on the drivers. In the listening room we were impressed by their ability to deliver a full range experience with tons of imaging and delicate highs, which is often the shortcoming of vintage speakers. Condition is extraordinary for the age and you're not likely to find a cleaner set. We have gone though the speakers carefully and they are working perfectly only requiring cleaning the controls, repair on a driver connection and a polish from our in-house tech. Sorry we are only offering local pickup on these speakers. Driver & Crossover Information - Each cabinet has an identical set of drivers but the crossovers are from different generations. The driver complement is as follows: - Tweeter - T350 - - Midrange - T250 w/ 8HD Horn - - Woofer - 15W - - Crossovers - X8 and X36 - While most Marquis were supplied with 12" woofers, the literature state that they were capable of being adapted for 15" woofers by removing and adaptor ring, which is what we have here. Marquis Enclosure Information: Our cabinets measure approx. 19" Wide, 14 1/2" Deep, and 29 1/2" Tall Service Information: - All drivers have been tested for proper function. All presence controls have been cleaned and a free of dropouts - New Brass screws have been installed in the rear panels Cosmetic Notes: - Each cabinet has minor wear consistent with age: including water spots, marks, light scratching, etc. Ownership: Single Owner Amplifier Recommendations: As little as 10 watts will make these sing General Sound: Big beautiful musical sound with little fatigue. Cosmetic Condition: 8/10 = Very Good. Excellent front faceplate, one minor flaw on chassis side or top. Working Condition: Working perfectly and tested in our lab and listening room. Testing Process: Our speaker evaluation process starts with a visual inspection of all drivers. We are looking for damaged or deteriorating woofer surrounds, dented tweeter domes, and cone damage. We also inspect the speaker connection points for loose or broken connectors. After the initial visual inspection we connect the speakers to a reference amplifier with our preferred test tracks. With the speakers placed with proper distance we listen to each driver to make sure that they are producing the intended frequencies with no signs of distortion or rattle. During listening tests with test tracks we check for proper stereo imaging and bass response at various listening levels. If there are any audible signs of issues, the speakers are taken to the bench where we perform a frequency sweep to isolate the issue so that it can be resolved by component repair or replacement. Our subwoofer evaluation process starts with a visual inspection of all drivers. We are looking for damaged or deteriorating woofer surrounds, cone damage, or rubbing voice coils. We also inspect the input connections for damage. After the initial visual inspection, we connect the sub at our bench and perform a sine wave sweep from about 200Hz down to around 10Hz. During this sweep we are listening for excessive rattle or other signs of improper function. If the sweep passes, we then increase the input level to evaluate how the woofer performs at high output levels. If the woofer has built in crossover features or multiple connection options these features are tested at this time. We complete the subwoofer evaluation by feeding the unit with an audio signal in conjunction with our house music system to see how it responds to low frequency content in real world conditions while paired with a full range system.
