Description: Two Books: Everlasting Burnings, An Essay by M. Garfield Cook 134 pagesCopyright 1981 Phoenix Publishing, Inc.Salt Lake City, UtahNew Condition, sitting on a shelf for 40 years, a little dusty, new condition. From the Introduction:Purpose Of Essay Using the tradition of scripture as the principle guide in combination with the two other sources of knowledge, presented herein in the form of an essay is an interpretation of certain findings of science regarding the nature and cause of things which appear to corroborate the doctrines taught by Joseph Smith about one hundred and forty years ago. Chapter I represents, with what brevity and clarity I can manage, some background as to the nature of things. Chapter II is intended to give some perspective as to the unification of all casual forces of the universe into one general governing force. As one gazes skyward on a clear night and allows his mind in quiet contemplation to soar to the bosom of eternity, can he help but recognize in the glorious scene before him a marvelous manifestation of the existence of a Supreme, Guiding Intelligence. It is that Intelligence who, in His infinite mercy, can reveal to man the grand key to understanding it all. The closest unaided science can come to a unified view of the heavens is an impersonal description in terms of random elementary particles and their chance interactions. But science aided by revelation could begin to describe an intelligent universe presided over by loving patriarchs. It could begin to describe a purposeful, theistic cosmogeny and biogeny from intelligent, self-existent materials, rather than a purposeless, atheistic “big bang” and spontaneous generation ex nihilo, or other postulated, singular accidents of nature. It could begin to describe grand celestial orbs such as Kolob, which roll upon their wings in the midst of everlasting burnings, sending forth light to fill the immensity of space and thereby establishing the network for quickening and governing various kingdoms and their inhabitants. It is that light from God’s presence that gives life to all things, that is in and through all things, is everywhere cleaving unto itself and is thereby maintaining the communication, order and unity of it all. This essay is of little intrinsic value except as it may present things as they really are, gives evidence of God’s existence, is in harmony with His divine laws, and provides motivation to obey and seek an understanding of them. If the material presented herein helps anyone in any way to this end, it will have accomplished the purpose intended by—The Author Cornerstones Of The Restoration, A Message Extracted From A Genealogical Record by M. Garfield Cook 143 pages. 1999New Condition, sitting on a shelf for 20 years, a little dusty, new condition. In Cornerstones of the Restoration, Garfield Cook discusses how dates of key events in the restoration of the kingdom of God were set in what prophets have called the chief cornerstone. God said to Isaiah: “For precept must be upon precept, [and]…line upon line; here a little, and there a little…I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stones, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation;….Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet” (Isaiah. 28:10, 16-17; cf. 2 Nephi. 28:30). The author takes this doctrine and gives numerical definition to a chief cornerstone symbol using scriptural parameters from the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. He then extracts a remarkable message from Jesus’ genealogical record presented by Matthew.
