Designer of around 600 bookplates. In 1936 attained an honorary diploma at the Bookmark international exhibition in Los Angeles Aleksei Yupatov worked according to the old masters traditions, used Russian sacred arts principles. He is an author of more than 600 ex-libris, collaborated with Kuznetsov Porcelain factory in Riga. He created such graphic series as Retreating Russia, Everyday Venice and Ivan the Terrible (1930s), sketches for decorative plates have been made after some of them. Artist published more than 30 albums and brochures of small run dedicated to the creative work of his own and other artists. Aleksei Yupatov studied at the Art Academy of Latvia (1930-1936). He begun to participate in exhibitions since 1930. In 1937 he worked as a stage designer at the Russian Drama Theatre in Riga. His works are on view at the Latvian National Museum of Art, the Museum of Ex-libris in Moscow and the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz.
