Made in Nusnas, Sweden. Dated 1994. Signed, but I cannot read the signature. Tomte Santa stands 10" tall. He is wearing a long reindeer fur coat, red flannel stocking hat and matching belt. The belt has reindeer fur tassles. He carries a wooden staff and sports a handsome pair of wire glasses. According to Scandinavian legend, the tomten is the protector of the farm through many generations. He is very small, usually dressed in grey or blue, has a long beard and a red cap. His only demand is a bowl of rice pudding on Christmas Eve. But if the farmer happens to forget, there will be trouble. Instead of protecting the farm and family, the tomten will play tricks on them. Tomten is the Swedish name. In Norway he is known as nissen, in Denmark as nissemanden and in Finland as tonttu. Don't miss out on this whimisical Christmas figure!
