Description: Name: Amecephalus laticaudumAge: Middle CambrianFormation: Spence Shale FormationLocation: Spence Gulch, Liberty, IdahoSize: Trilobite is 1.4 inches long! We recently acquired some nice fossils from the late Joseph Butterfield Collection (NJ). We will be auctioning these fossils here over the next few weeks. This is an uncommon US trilobite. This is a cool example of Amecephalus laticaudum from the Middle Cambrian of Idaho. This large specimen is nicely outstretched and prone. One free cheek is present and tightly attached, which is somewhat unusual - most examples are missing both cheeks. The inflated bug is complete down to the pygidium, which is also highly uncommon. The distinct trilobite is well showcased on the squared plate of shale. This is an affordable example of Amecephalus laticaudum, a very elusive trilobite from the Rocky Mountains.
