Description: Name: Urasterella asperula Age: Devonian Formation: Hunsruck Shale (Bundenbach) Location: Bundenbach, Germany Size: Plate is 3.1 inches across! We recently acquired some nice fossils from the late Joseph Butterfield Collection (NJ). We will be auctioning these fossils here over the next few weeks. This is a striking starfish fossil. This is a displayable Urasterella asperula from the Devonian of Germany. Since the quarries in this area have closed, the only way to obtain specimens from this site is through the dispersal of old collections - this specimen was recently acquired from the Butterfield Collection. The distinct starfish has five arms intact, which is quite unusual. The extremely inflated and 3-D starfish has very fine detail preserved and was fossilized in a very aesthetic pose. The ancient echinoderm displays beautifully on the squared plate of roofing slate. This is a very cool five-armed starfish fossil from the classic German Bundenbach locality.A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS.com is included with this specimen. Insurance is included in the cost of shipping.Note: International customers may have to pay a duty at Customs - every country's rules are different.
