It is a forest green, olive green or blue greenish vitreous silica projectile glass formed by a meteorite impact in southern Germany (Nördlinger Ries Crater) that occurred about 15 million years ago. It is technically a Tektite, which is a group of impact glasses formed by meteorite impacts. Moldavite is a member of the Tektite group of natural glasses formed from interplanetary collisions. It has a unique formation behind it and is believed to have healing properties and uses.
