Wisk, a retired educator, began crafting doll with clay, wire, wax, and fabric to be used as educational tools. These dolls were made 5 years before Wisk founded Wisket Designs Inc and began large-scale production of her designs.One-of-a-kind artisan-designed and crafted collector pieces. Three of the dolls have a Faith Wisk Original label attached to the backside of the outer garments with glue or stitches. The label is missing on the mother doll holding an infant. The back of the mother's dress has some dark stains most likely from the glue used to attach its label. The father and toddler dolls have dark spots on their labels. The girl doll's label is hand stitched to her dress.According to the 1985 newsarticle clipping, included with the dolls, Wisk had been making her miniature dolls for 12 years. Wisk described her early dolls as "crude and weird", but they were selling for $1000 to $5000 each in 1985.This family set of 6" father, 6" mother holding an infant, a3.5" toddler boy (too small for a doll stand), and a 5"girl child. The dolls, made in 1973, are unique early works of the internationally known dollmaker, who sculpted clay with toothpicks resulting in primitive expressive faces, hands, and feet. The bodies are made of cloth. Wire is used to construct the armature of the dolls. The brochure included with this set of dolls, has a handwritten page about the Pilgrim Family that states, " These dolls have not been re-created in any other medium, and are truly one-of-a-kind." Faith Wisk signed her name at the bottom of the page.The father doll's hat does not stay on his head securley.
