Description: A huge, museum quality sterling necklace with inlaid stones by the Navajo/Dine artist Harold Smith who has created some of the finest Native American inlay work. This piece created ca 1990 has a chain of large hand made silver links with long triangles and sun face inlaid spacers, a center horizontal rectangular inlay piece and a big disc pendant/drop with three stylistic feathers asymmetrically placed and hanging from the bottom. All the inlaid components are thick with solid silver backs and inlaid with geometric patterns in a variety of stones and shells-onyx, mother of pearl, turquoise, coral, malachite, spiny oyster, pipestone. The stones are skillfully cut and polished, and set between strips of silver and dotted with rounds of silver which shimmer like stars in a night sky. The long necklace has a big hand wrought hook clasp. The back of the pendant is stamped H. SMITH. The round pendant is 2" diameter not including the hefty bail and 1/4" thick. The feathers are 1 1/2" to 2 1/4" long. The rectangular piece is 1 1/2" x 9/16". The long double triangle spacers are 2 3/4" x 1/2" and the sun faces are 1/2" diameter. The long links are 2". The wearable length of the necklace is 26" and the drop from the rectangle is 4 3/4". Weight is a hefty 113 grams. This amazing piece came from an estate of a woman who traveled in the southwest in the 90s and bought beautiful artist-made pieces. This necklace could vie with a squash blossom for size and impact. It is in excellent condition.
