The world was getting smaller and in the postwar period, more Americans were able to see how people were living in other countries and they cultivated their tastes away from Early Colonial or American and welcomed Danish Modern in its many flavors and incarnations! Raymor was busy during the mid century importing the finest Scandinavian and Italian furnishings, and selling them in their New York showroom, to the hungry American marketplace that didn't have access to high end European style! This lamp has wonderful sculptural elements forming a cage in the base. Inside the cage is a second linen shade with a night light inside! So the lamp can be used for accent lighting or to provide very soft night illumination. In very fine condition with some minor age wear to the plaster, shade and wood base. Switches on either or both lamps and works very well. Danish Modern lamps almost always create a visual harmony between nature and machine. Whether it be handcrafted woodwork or earthenware, the Danish style brings a welcoming warmth to living spaces.
