Fenton Charleton Pink Mist and Roses Comport

Description: What a cute piece! This is a nice Fenton Silver Crest footed bowl or comport… pretty milk glass with a ring of pure crystal on the edge. Handcrafted by skilled glass artists. A real work of art! But what makes this piece more special than a normal silver crest bowl is the presence of the "Charleton” “Roses and Pink Mist" decoration. “Decorating companies” were successful in the 1930’s and 40’s; they bought European glass and decorated it here for sales in stores. When WWII closed off the ability of European glass companies to sell to the United States, they turned to domestic suppliers. Fenton was one of their major manufacturers. They bought Fenton blanks from the regular line through the 1940's and decorated them with exquisite floral patterns. “Charleton” was the trade name for the glass decorated by Abels Wasserburg, and is the name that Fenton collectors use for this practice. The “Roses on Pink Mist” decoration features a pink rose on the edge with blue accent flowers surrounding by a fading pink decoration with white dots. I can't date this exactly, other than to say it's likely from the 40’s-50’s. The glass is in good, factory condition. No chips or cracks. Flower paint is in very good shape. As to the rest of the paint: The Pink mist is pretty good (see pics). The Gold enamel is almost perfect on the base, and but faded in many spots (say, 5 out of 10) on the rim. The gold enamel around in the center of the pink mist is also pretty good. A seldom seen pattern! Original Charleton sticker! The item measures about 7 inches across. My inventory number is B68U.
