🔥 Fine Vintage Modern Russian Surrealist City Oil Painting, Grigorovich 1997

Description: This is exceptional and visually stunning Fine Vintage Modern Russian Surrealist Cityscape Oil Painting on canvas, by the masterful Moscow-born Magical Realism painter, Dmitry Grigorovich (b. 1951.) This artwork depicts two small Russian Orthodox chapels, and the surrounding area, inside of a large white porcelain dish placed upon a table. On the table below, a silver tablecloth, and cutlery can be seen. In the distance, a pale blue sky with pinkish hued wispy clouds brings a sense of tranquility to this unusual and ethereal scene. This artwork clearly takes inspiration from Rene Magritte (1898 - 1967), but Grigorovich is in a league of his own when it comes to the realism and rich detail in his paintings. This is without a doubt the best Surrealist painting I have ever had the pleasure to own or offer for sale. Signed in Cyrillic, "D. Grigorovich" in the lower right corner. Additionally, this piece is signed, titled and dated on the verso: "D. Grigorovich. Dish. 1997." It also bears an old, partially legible Russian exportation ink stamp. This monumental painting is approximately 29 x 53 x 1 3/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 23 3/8 x 47 1/2 inches. Very good condition for age, with some very light craquelure in one small area of the canvas, and mild - moderate scuffing, gilding loss and edge wear to the very heavy original period gilded wood frame (please see photos.) Acquired from an affluent estate collection in Los Angeles County, California. Grigorovich's original paintings are seldomly available outside of high-end Russian - Ukrainian art galleries, and this is the first piece by this artist to ever be offered on eBay. Due to the very large size, and heavy weight of this piece, S&H costs will be unavoidably high. However, Free Local Pickup from Los Angeles County, California is also an option. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. Please check out my other listings for more wonderful and unique artworks! About the Artist: DmitryGrigorovichRussia • Moscow • born in 1951 • artist (ArtHive) The objective and animated visual range in the paintings of Dmitry Grigorovich appears either against a neutral light or dark background, or against the background of a recognizable Siberian or Central Russian landscape. But no matter what the artist depicts, in almost every of his paintings of any format, the viewer can find a certain general strangeness, which is akin to such a worldwide phenomenon of fine art of the XX century as surrealism. It has long been noted that many Russian artists of the younger and middle generation often fall under the influence of this extravagant style and in some cases even manage to organically combine it with the surrounding reality, since the surreal has always been in abundance in Russia. In other words, CAREFULLY WRITTEN ABSURDITY is a common phenomenon in our time.Dmitry is characterized by working not so much with the help of color as with the help of light. His painting is almost grisaille. In particular, he consistently operates with shades of brown.Silence, peace, undisturbed by anything on the surface of the water, in which stones, boats and shores are reflected. Thanks to the thoroughness of writing, the viewer receives maximum information about the surface of stones and other objects. The artist, like a sculptor, achieves the utmost clarity of volumes, and as a result, it seems that we not only see what is depicted, but also touchit, and even feel the weight ofeach material object.Among the calm pacifying landscapes, the absolutely realistic (without the slightest admixture of surrealistic oddities) painting "The Shore" (2007) stands out. A boat and stones in the foreground, and in the second there is a shore and a log hut, dissolving in a foggy haze. And nothing superfluous that complicates vision and breathing. It seems that the stylistic exoticism and absurdity of the visual range come to the artist not so much at the level of feelings, but at the level of knowledge and impressions from what he sees.Dmitry clearly managed to soften the harsh and often overwhelming style of surrealism, instilling in it Russian (Siberian) pictorial roots. The artist says: "I spent my childhood on the outskirts of the city, surrounded by stables and horses." Now, looking at dozens of canvases filled with noble portraits of horses, the viewer involuntarily understands that this is precious living life, seen, understood and loved by the artist. It is difficult and even impossible to predict how the artist's work will develop in the future. Only one thing is clear that Dmitry Grigorovich will not turn into an obvious impressionist or, even worse, an abstractionist and, at the very least, will not want to sacrifice the acquired professional technique of painting, which allows him to comprehend and reflect the picture of the world around him. CONTEMPORARY SUMMER SHOW 26 May – 2 August 2003 Works by contemporary Russian artists The Hay Hill Gallery proudly presents paintings of the selected leading contemporary Russian masters, namely, Stanislav Plutenko, Tatiana and Alexey Zhemchuzhnikov, Vera Pavlova, Yury Krasavin, Galina and Dmitry Grigorovich, and others. Dmitry Grigorovich combines in his paintings traditions and an acute feeling of the present. His paintings are based on the pyramid of classic art possessing the technique of Old Masters. Although, at the same time Grigorovich does not use complex compositions with a great number of characters. At the works of the artist people reveal some striking situations and characters, which are dear to their own feelings.Works of Dmitry’s wife, Galina Grigorovich, bring the feeling of self-appraisal of the artist’s style, an increasing number of decorative tendencies, an inclination for a great colour saturation, cheerfulness, and passion for the beauty of the world.(Russian Mirror, No.36, June 11, 2003)
