At the séance table, sitters gaze into the flame of a candle secured in a metal and glass hurricane lantern. At the command of the medium, the flame begins to dance and flicker, starting and stopping its movement on command in response to the command of the performer or his spectators. This IS a dream come true for professional performers! The prop consists of a Hurricane lamp (the sort made to use a candle, not a wick). During a séance, a sitter is asked to light the candle in the lamp and lower the glass chimney. They handle everything and place the lamp into the middle of the table, then all hands are placed onto the table in the age-old fashion. TAKE NOTE...nothing can get to the flame at all, it's completely isolated in the lamp. Whenever the performer calls upon the “Spirits” to give him a sign or signal, the candle flame starts “Dancing” in the most eerie fashion. The performer is apparently in communication with the spirit world. Questions may be asked of the spirits who will answer through the candle flame, one flicker for yes.....two for no. The lamp is under the performer's complete control at all times, even with the performer's hands on the table top. The lamp can be placed anywhere in the room if wished and could even be held by one of the sitters or spectators without the method being detected. This is NOT a trick and should not be performed as such, it is a serious bit of equipment for professional performers of Séance Performance. A lot of work has gone into retaining the prop's appearance, that of a hurricane/storm lamp available from hardware shops (dirty it up and it could have come straight out of shed or coalbunker).
