Description: This Fostex D-160 16 track rack mount hard disk recorder is fully functional with signs of use. There is some rack rash on the top and the removable control panel has some yellowing and wear. It has two option boards, balanced IO and SMPTE. I serviced and cleaned this recorder when I got and I used this it for a few months. I found it to be excellent sound quality wise and extremely reliable. It will synchronize nicely to a sequencer with Midi Time Code or SMPTE. Once it receives time code it will automatically start and it worked really well with an Akai MPC to add audio tracks to a sequence. This is from the mid 1990s and it uses IDE hard disks to record on. The largest disk it can use is 8gb which is around 24 hours of record time. It currently has a 6gb drive for 20 hours of record time. There is a firmware update that will allow for larger drive sizes but I was unable to find it online. I used a 2gb Jaz drive as a backup drive. The lock on the drive tray has been removed so there are no keys to lose for it. It has no fans and the hard drive installed is fairly quiet. The best option I found for quiet drives are old IDE laptop drives. You can use larger drives but the firmware will see them as 8gb drives. I used a 2.5" 40gb laptop drive with a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter. This item is sold as is with no returns. Shipping is worldwide. Shipments outside the US will be through eBay standard shipping.
