The 1866 bayonet may also work on 11 mm Mle1874 Gras rifle according to Ralph Cobb. See his excellent website World Bayonets.The bayonet is in very good condition. The blade is straight and the edge has not been sharpened. It has a smooth finish, not rough or pitted, with minor staining. The brass grip is good. It retains the patina of age and has not been recently cleaned.The spine is nicely marked (in French) Mfg. of Arms St. Etienne March 1874. A couple inspection marks are visible on the right side of the ricasso, partly under the grip.The crossguard is serial numbered FG 15865 on the left side and has several inspection marks on the curved section and also on the front side of the guard.Several inspection marks are visible in the slot in the handle, on the brass and on the top of the steel catch.The scabbard is in very good condition, a very nice example for this bayonet. It has no dents and no scratches. It has a smooth finish that's mostly browned, with traces of the original blue finish visible in areas. It is serial numbered L 86081. There are three markings on the brazed-on ball tip. The overall length is 27-5/8 inches.
